Therapy for Depression

Depression does not always look like depression. Sometimes it looks like getting everything done while feeling emotionally exhausted or disconnected.

What is depression

For many people, it feels like numbness, irritability, or a level of exhaustion that doesn't improve with sleep. It can also look like losing interest in the things that once mattered, feeling disconnected from yourself, or simply getting through the day instead of enjoying it.

Depression rarely has a single cause. Sometimes it develops after years of carrying too much on your own or feeling unseen. Sometimes there is a strong biological or genetic side, or it is tied to sleep, health, hormones, or major stress. That mix matters because it means there is more than one way in.

When it is worth reaching out

Many people wait until they're at their breaking point before asking for help.

The truth is, you don't have to. If you've been experiencing low mood, emotional numbness, loss of interest, or changes in sleep, energy, or motivation for two weeks or longer, and those changes are affecting your daily life, it may be time to talk with someone.

What helps, and why it works

When you are depressed, waiting to feel motivated before doing anything keeps you stuck, because the motivation tends to come after the action, not before. So a lot of the work is the reverse of what depression tells you. We start with small, doable actions that gently rebuild momentum, an approach with strong research behind it. Alongside that, CBT helps loosen the harsh and hopeless thoughts depression feeds on, and when there is older pain underneath, we make room to work with that too.
